Reporter Experts published Ravi Mandalia’s article “The Good Deeds of Tony Petrello” about one of the highest paid CEOs in the oil and gas industry. However, the article deviates from Petrello’s work with Nabors Industries and focuses on his philanthropic achievements.
Tony Petrello might be well known for being a leader in the oil and gas field, leading Nabor Industries to huge success during his reign as CEO and President. However, he has become well known in Texas for his dedication to finding solutions for neurological disorders.
Why this particular worthy cause? Tony Petrello has personal experience with neurological disorders, specifically cerebral palsy and periventricular leukomalacia. The world of doctors and neurological researchers quickly intruded the life of Tony Petrello with the birth of his daughter Carena.
Carena Petrello was born at only twenty-four weeks at just twenty ounces. Her premature birth led the doctors to recognize a common ailment in premature babies, namely periventricular leukomalacia. This disorder affects the blood flow to the brain, preventing the brain from having adequate amounts of oxygen. Unfortunately, this led to the development of cerebral palsy in Carena. Cerebral palsy is a congenital disorder that has affected Carena’s mobility and development. At eight-years-old, Carena is only beginning to consume solid food.
After the birth of his daughter and the diagnosis, Tony and his wife began to research into the disorder. They looked across the nation at different research institutions and they even took their pursuit internationally. Unfortunately, all they discovered was that there was a huge gap in the research surrounding children’s neurological disorders.
At their local Texas Children’s Hospital, which Tony Petrello acts as a board member, he was able to gain valuable contacts like Dan Dunbar who has donated nearly $50 million to create the Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children’s Hospital. Tony has donated nearly seven million dollars of his own money to the cause, hoping to support the doctors and researchers who have supported and encouraged his family.
Tony Petrello is the President and CEO of Nabors Industries, a leading land drilling company that has a fleet of specialty rigs for land and offshore drilling. The company has improved automation for drilling while maintaining a specialized crew to improve the standards in the oil and gas sector.
Tony Petrello joined the team as the COO in 1991 and rose to become the CEO and President in 2011. Prior to that, Petrello was an attorney at Baker & McKenzie.
